Albany Poets Week in Review

Ed Rinaldi

We kicked off this week with a special edition of Poets Speak Loud with featured poet Anthony Bernini who was reading from and signing his new book, Immediate Worlds. The room was packed and the poetry was inspiring for the October installment of the series. Next month we are back on our regular schedule, the last Monday of the month, November 28 with featured poet Kevin Peterson.

Next week the poetry and spoken word continues with the Nitty Gritty Slam #5 at Valentines. The signup begins at 7:00PM, open mic at 7:30PM, and the slam starts at 8:00PM. Get there early, seats go quick. Dain and Mojavi are your hosts for the evening. For a full explanation of the rules and what to expect be sure to check out the NGS website or the Facebook event page.

Here are a few of the stories that we featured on the Albany Poets website:

New Audio – Albany Poets Presents, July 5, 2011
This was one of the last Albany Poets Presents open mics at Valentines before handing everything over to make room for the Nitty Gritty Slam. The open mic featured poetry from Dan Wilcox, Illiptical, Mojavi, Dain Brammage, Ben Golden, new poet Jessica Fisher-Smith, and another new(ish) poet to the scene Nadi Morsch.

The Raven At The UAG – An All Hallows Eve Tribute To Edgar Allan Poe
We wanted to send out a reminder for next weeks special event at the UAG. R.M. Engelhardt and Albany Poets are teaming up once again to celebrate the life and work of one of America’s greatest writers, Edgar Allan Poe.

Yes! with Jason Cosco, MacGregor Card, and Conchitina Cruz
The Yes! Reading Series continues on Friday, November 11 at the Social Justice Center featuring the film of Jason Cosco and poetry from MacGregor Card and Conchitina Cruz at 8:00PM.

East Line Books – A Local Bookstore Supporting Local Writers and Poets
We just received information about an upcoming workshop series for writers happening every Saturday in November at East Line Books in Clifton Park. After reading about this fantastic series we wanted to find out what else is going on at the bookstore and discovered that this small, local bookstore on Rte. 9 is doing big things to support the writers and poets in the upstate area.

Caffè Lena Poetry Open Mic with Featured Poet Carolee Sherwood
Local painter, artist, poet, performer, former Hudson Valley Writers Guild co-President, and current HVWG webmaster (people still use that term?) Carolee Sherwood is scheduled to be the featured poet next Wednesday, November 2, at the Caffe Lena Poetry Open Mic night in Saratoga Springs.
