The Hudson Valley Writers Guild supports the efforts of writers in all genres by sponsoring readings, workshops, and contests and providing a number of valuable resources for the entire literary community of Upstate New York.
The HVWG hosts a number of programs, events (open mics, readings, poetry slams, music, and spoken word), and the annual Albany Word Fest while pursuing new and vibrant ideas of members and community residents. The HVWG website is the most comprehensive resource in the Northeast for literary news and events listings. The Writers Guild also publishes Up The River, Trailer Park Quarterly, and Offline.
Hudson Valley Writers Guild Inc. is a registered charity with the NYS Office of Attorney General.
In order to responsibly preserve the history of the Hudson Valley Writers Guild since its founding in 1983, Board members and volunteers arranged for most of the Guild’s pre-2000 records to be permanently housed in the M.E. Grenander Dept. of Special Collections and Archives. The transfer was finalized on August 8, 2018. The records contain about fifteen years of Board meeting minutes, Guild newsletters, program flyers, and membership reports. Professional archivists will describe the collection contents, create a finding aid and MARC record to be located in Worldcat, and digitize on-demand as researchers request material.
