East Line Books – A Local Bookstore Supporting Local Writers and Poets

East Line Books

We just received information about an upcoming workshop series for writers happening every Saturday in November at East Line Books in Clifton Park. After reading about this fantastic series we wanted to find out what else is going on at the bookstore and discovered that this small, local bookstore on Rte. 9 is doing big things to support the writers and poets in the upstate area.

Here is the information on the Writing Workshop Series for Adults:

Every Saturday in November – 10:00am-12:30pm

Four two-and-a-half hour classes for adults on specific aspects of the creative writing process. Great for amateurs and professionals alike. Perfect for easing back into writing, spicing up your successful writing life, or just for fun! Come to all sessions or just a few. $45 per session or $135 for all four (one class free!)
Call 371-4151 to sign up!

A class chock-full of prompts to electrify your mind, spur your imagination, and make your words come alive. This session will focus on getting words on the page and sparking ideas for great stories.

This class will investigate the different ways in which writers practice their craft. It will help you create a personal writing plan and tailor your writing experience to your personality. Discover a way to make writing fun, easy, and productive!

Each participant should bring a short passage from a favorite book that they find especially resonant. In thisclass, participants will demystify the greats by exploring specific techniques their favorite authors are using. We will also learn how to incorporate these techniques in our own writing.

In this class we will discuss the thin line between memoir and fiction. You will learn how to lift people, places, and events from your own experiences and place them gracefully (and anonymously!) into your fiction.

About the Instructor
Lily Ringler graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College in June with a degree in English and creative writing. She has been teaching creative writing classes since she was sixteen. Her writing has been featured on NPR and in Multicultural Review among many other venues. She is the recipient of the Erksine Caldwell Prize for excellence in the short story.

And, on Thursday, November 17, East Line Books will be presenting Local Authors Night with Julianna Spallholz reading from her new book The State of Kansas and Jan Tramontano reading from her new book Standing at the Corner of Lost & Found with additional readings by Kathe Kokolias, Carol Graser, M.E. Kemp, and Mary Sanders Shartle.

Some background information on the bookstore:

Our cozy, comfortable bookshop is the perfect place to drop in, browse for a treasure, lounge in an easy chair with a free cup of coffee or tea and read a book or sit in our cozy classroom to write or search the net on your laptop through our WIFI.

East Line Books sponsors events like author signings, speakers, book clubs, workshops, and even comedy shows by the local Improv Club and open mic nights for local writing groups like the Mavens of Mayhem and WomanWords.

East Line Books hosts a monthly book club and some of the best creative writing classes in upstate New York for adults, teens and children.  During the school year, we sponsor creative writing classes for homeschoolers, a poetry circle for adults, and–the highlight–our six-week personal essay/memoir class.

If you are in Saratoga County, please stop in and check out East Line Books and help support the local businesses that support local arts.
