At the “unlucky” NGS #13 we found that sometimes less is more. Less staff, less poets, but still a great night of spoken word with at least one new friend on the stage. In the end, familiar faces came out on top with Kevin Peterson, Poetyc Visionz, and Shannon “In the Money” Shoemaker taking home the prize money.
How will #14 shape up? Who will walk away with all of the fame and fortune that goes along with being crowned NGS #14 Winner? How long will Shannon be “in the money” for? Join us for the next installment of the Nitty Gritty Slam at Valentines to find out.
And tomorrow night we have something very special planned as, for the first time at Nitty Gritty Slam, we will have a featured poet: Rain Maker. If you missed him perform at Urban Guerilla Theatre last Friday, you are in for a treat tomorrow night. Rain Maker is one of the hottest, most dynamic and prolific spoken word artists in the country right now and we are lucky to have him grace our stage.
Urban Guerilla Theatre, Albany Poets, and The Frequency North Reading Series have combined forces and brought slam poetry back to Albany with the Nitty Gritty Slam twice a month at Valentines hosted by local slam poets Dain Brammage and Mojavi.
If you are not into slam, but still want to get on stage and share your work, we do have an open mic for poetry and spoken word before the slam starting at 7:30PM.
Sign up begins at 7:00PM, open mic starts at 7:30PM, and the slam starts at 8:00PM.
Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID)
Nitty Gritty Slam takes place at Valentines (17 New Scotland Ave.) on the first and third Tuesday’s of each and every month.
