Writing Events and Retreats at the Garrison Institute

The Garrison Institute is a local non-profit retreat center, dedicated to creating a more resilient future. They are increasing their arts programming and have been actively working with poets and writers to create new retreats and events.

First is Writing to Awaken, with Mark Matousek and Maria Sirois: https://www.garrisoninstitute.org/event/mark-matousek-and-maria-sirois-writing-to-awaken/

This workshop will examine how loneliness and belonging both affect a writer and the writing experience.

“Every life is a mixture of shadow and light, loneliness and belonging, disconnection and communion with self and others. In this writing workshop we will explore what is gained, and potentially lost, in the ebb and flow of these experiences, and we’ll offer tools to help us flow between the states of loneliness and belonging with a bit more clarity, calm, curiosity, and humor.”

We also have a Mark Nepo event and a Mark Nepo retreat coming up.

The event is free and open to the public, and precludes the longer retreat at the Garrison Institute.

About the event:  https://www.garrisoninstitute.org/event/mark-nepo-the-way-under-the-way-the-place-of-true-meeting/

“Mark Nepo will lead an evening reading and conversation exploring his book, The Way Under the Way: The Place of True Meeting. Please bring a journal to the reading. This reading and conversation will center on our connection to the depth of life, that place of true meeting that is always near, where we chance to discover our shared humanity, and common thread of spirit. Through poetry, story, journaling, and dialogue, Mark will guide participants into conversation with their own journey.”

About the retreat: https://www.garrisoninstitute.org/event/mark-nepo-the-one-life-were-given-finding-the-wisdom-that-waits-in-your-heart/

“This gathering celebrates the publication of Mark Nepo’s new book of poetry The Way Under the Way, which gathers 217 poems retrieved and shaped over the past twenty years. Beloved as a poet, teacher, and storyteller, the New York Times bestselling author is committed to poetry as a way being and caring more than the manipulation of language. The central theme of Mark’s work is an ongoing inquiry into the inner space of the soul and the journey of being human.

This reading and conversation will center on our connection to the depth of life, that place of true meeting that is always near, where we chance to discover our shared humanity and common thread of spirit.
