So much going on in the local poetry and spoken word community as National Poetry Month 2017 begins. Here is a look at all of the poetry events, readings, slams, and workshops coming up this week in the region.

 

Sunday, April 2

2:00pm – Favorite Poem Project

What’s YOUR favorite poem? Come read it at the 12th Annual Favorite Poem Project. People of all ages are invited to participate in this Rensselaerville tradition of celebrating Poetry Month, emceed by Claire North.

Tuesday, April 4

A weekly open mic for music, performance, and poetry on the incredible Club Helsinki stage.

7:00pm – Nitty Gritty Slam
The Low Beat, 335 Central Ave., Albany, NY
Season Six of Albany’s poetry slam continues with a night of dynamic poetry and spoken word with a featured performer and an open mic. 

7:00pm – Emack and Bolio’s Open Mic Night

A weekly open mic for music and poetry.

7:00pm – Poetry and Short Story Open Mic

All are welcome to join the monthly Poetry & Short Story Evenings that will be held on 1st Tuesday of Every Month at the Irish Tea Shop.

8:00pm – Club Harmony Poetry Series

A weekly poetry and spoken word open mic series hosted by Michael Platsky with featured poet Karen Herceg.

8:00pm – Northampton Poetry Last Chance Slam and Featured Poet Robert Lashley
World War II Club, 50 Conz St., Northampton, MA
Northampton’s only weekly open mic poetry night offers some of the best, most creative voices in the county. Every Tuesday night at 8:00pm. Come down and listen. Come down and share your words. Academic or slam, spoken word or political: Your words are welcome. This week’s featured poet is Robert Lashley.

6:30pm – Teen Poetry & Spoken Word Showcase

Teen and adult poets and writers of all levels, the Mamakating Library wants YOU to come share your talent with the community and join us for the official opening of the search for a Town of Mamakating Poet Laureate!

7:00pm – Nitty Gritty Presents: “Crevices of Creation”
Sunhee’s Farm and Kitchen, 95 Ferry Street, Troy, NY
“Crevices of Creation” is the first of our Create & Chat series: an intimate, workshop and performance event. Let the art of iconic women guide your collaborative creations during a workshop/skillshare followed by a poetry showcase where the audience can have an intimate conversation with some of the area’s finest poets, who are women, about their process and the meaning of their work beyond the surface.

7:00pm – Volume Reading Series
Spotty Dog Books & Ale, 440 Warren Street, Hudson, NY
Volume is a FREE reading and music series featuring prose, poetry, and a short DJ set every second Saturday at Spotty Dog Books and Ale in Hudson NY. This month’s featured performers are Melissa Febos and Paul La Farge.
