Nitty Gritty Slam #80 – The 3rd Annual Inappropriate Slam

AP-Event-NGS-80

It’s that time a year again, we are back at The Low Beat on Tuesday, October 21 for the 3rd Annual Inappropriate Slam!

For the past two years we gotten together to showcase the most cringe-worthy, “not ready for prime time” poetry and spoken word. We always have a good time at this event and people ask about it all year. Also, anyone who gets on stage and takes part in one the funniest and most anticipated evenings of the year will be added to the points board as we get closer to our first semi-final coming up on November 18.

There are no limits or boundaries, except that it has to be your own writing and, of course, inappropriate.

Remember, if Algorhytm starts a sentence with “Girrrlllllll…”, you know you are being set up for an inappropriate poem.

This fourth season Nitty Gritty Slam is off to a great start with a great mix of new and “veteran” poets getting on stage, competing, and adding to the leader board. Who will step up and wrestle the first place spot away from L-Majesty, who has been the points leader most of the season so far?

The road to NPS 2015 has begun and there is still time to get on board the #TeamNittyGritty Express.

If you’re not into competing in the slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic, hosted by Kevin Peterson, before the slam. Sign up begins at 7:00pm, open mic starts at 7:30, and then Thom Francis starts the slam at 8:00pm. Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.

If you can’t make it out to the show that night, be sure to follow along on Twitter – #NGS80.

Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series have brought slam back to Albany with the Nitty Gritty Slam at The Low Beat (335 Central Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.
