Between The Lines in Troy Featuring Thom Francis

Thom Francis at WF 2013

Friday, May 31, is going to be a busy night for poetry in the area. Dan Wilcox will be hosting the annual Walt Whitman birthday reading of “Song of Myself” in Washington Park while across the river in Troy D. Colin is hosting the monthly “Between The Lines” open mic. The featured poet this time around in at the Enchante Tea Room will be Thom Francis.

Thom Francis is the president of Albany Poets and has been organizing, promoting, and hosting open mics and poetry / spoken word events in Albany such as Nitty Gritty Slam, School of Night, Albany Poets Presents…, and the Albany Word Fest for over 13 years. As a poet and performer, Thom has been featured at many of the upstate poetry and spoken word events from Saratoga to Woodstock as well as LarkFest, Art on Lark, 1st Friday, and the Albany Word Fest. As Slammaster for the Nitty Gritty Slam, he had the honor of bringing the first ever slam team from Albany to the National Poetry Slam in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2012.

“Between the Lines” is quickly becoming one of the best new open mics / poetry readings in the area. In the past year there have been a lot of incredible, talented poets featured at the series including Rain Maker, Team Nitty Gritty 2012 member Elizag, and Midnight from Connecticut’s Verbal Slap slam team. This open mic has also welcomed many new poets and artists to the stage as D. Colin has worked very hard to bring spoken word back to the Collar City.

This series takes place on the last Friday of each month at Enchante Tea Room, 169 River Street, Troy, NY starting at 7:00pm. Admission is $5.00. For more information contact D. Colin at poet.d.colin@gmail.com.
