Nitty Gritty Slam #39 – The Dead Poet Slam

AP-Event-NGS-39

Once a year we have a slam event that goes against one of the biggest rules that we have spent so much time telling you about. You have been told that in the slam you have to recite your own work, you cannot read other people’s poetry. Well, on Tuesday, March 5, that rule goes right out the window for One Night Only at Nitty Gritty Slam #39 – The Dead Poet Slam!

For this special edition of NGS, you HAVE to read another poets work. And that poet has to be dead.

Bring out your Poe! Bring out your Whitman! Bring out your DEAD!

Standard NGS / “8-4-2” format will still apply: three rounds, three minutes, prizes and points at the end.

This will also be a fund raiser for the upcoming Albany Word Fest and for Team Nitty Gritty. So, if you have a couple extra dollars in your pocket and you want to help the cause, please do. We will have a couple of items to raffle off and maybe even some give aways.

You are not going to want to miss this 39th installment of Nitty Gritty Slam on March 5 at Valentine’s.

Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series are bringing slam back to Albany with the Nitty Gritty Slam.

Last year a slam team from Albany, representing Nitty Gritty Slam, went to the National Poetry Slam in Charlotte, NC. This year, a new team will be heading to Boston to show the rest of the country the amazing talent that lives right here in Albany, NY.

NGS takes place at Valentine’s (17 New Scotland Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.

If you’re not into slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic before the slam.

Sign up begins at 7PM, open mic, hosted by Team NGS Coach Mojavi, starts at 7:30, and the slam starts at 8PM with Thom Francis.

Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.
