Nitty Gritty Slam #24: Night of Champions at Valentine’s on Tuesday, August 21

The Nitty Gritty Slam is celebrating its one year anniversary at NGS #21 at Valentine’s on Tuesday, August 24 and we are inviting all of our previous winners to come back and compete at this special Night of Champions.

In the past year we have had 12 seperate first place winners at Nitty Gritty Slam: Tammy Lopez, Elizag, Rain Dan, Poetyc Visionz, Shannon Shoemaker, Illiptical, Kevin Peterson, Ben Golden, Steven Valentine, D. Colin, Carly, and Algorhythm. Some of our winners have gone on to win multiple times (Elizag is a five time, five time, five time, five time, five time Nitty Gritty champ) and some have taken the prize money and never come back.

Join us for this special edition of the slam as we welcome Team Nitty Gritty back from the National Poetry Slam and we bring an end to the first year of Albany’s very own poetry slam by crowning the Champion of Champions.

We will also have an open mic to kick the show off for all poets, slammers, and spoken word artists. Everyone is invited to share their work at this celebration event.

Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series are bringing slam back to Albany with the NITTY GRITTY SLAM.

NGS takes place at Valentine’s (17 New Scotland Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.

If you’re not into slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic before the slam.

Sign up begins at 7PM, open mic starts at 7:30, and the slam starts at 8PM.

Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.
