Nitty Gritty Slam #19 is in the books and what a great night of poetry and spoken word it was. This was a night of new beginnings and big announcements as we introduced Team Nitty Gritty to the world.
We also debuted some new graphics, a new NGS website, and even a new Slam Master.
Our Slam Coach / Open Mic host Mojavi kicked off the evening with the open mic that featured some poetry by Thom Francis, Emily Gonzalez, Laura B., Julie Lomoe, and Carolee Sherwood.
We then introduced Team Nitty Gritty which consists of top points leaders Shannon Shoemaker, Elizag, Kevin Peterson, and Poetic Visionz. These are the poets who will be representing Albany for the first time at the National Poetry Slam in Charlotte in August.
For the slam we had six poets step up on stage and battle it out. Here is how the event went down:

Elizag – 29.1
ILLiptical – 25.5
