Getting Down to the Nitty Gritty (Slam)

Miriam Axel-Lute

We have made it to our fifth slam!

We are very proud to bring the Nitty Gritty Slam #5 to Valentines tonight. We want to thank everyone who has helped support the slam so far by getting the word out, coming to the event, being a judge, and even getting up on stage to perform.

Here is the information from the Facebook event page:

Come out and join us for the next installment of the Nitty Gritty Slam at Valentines. We have had some fantastic talent on the stage so far and the next winner could be you!

Poetyc Vyzonz came in first place at NGS #4 with Elizag coming in a close second and Shannon Shoemaker taking third.

Urban Guerilla Theatre, Albany Poets, and The Frequency North Reading Series are bringing slam back to Albany with the NITTY GRITTY SLAM twice a month at Valentines hosted by Dain Brammage and Mojavi.

NITTY GRITTY SLAM is registered with PSI (Poetry Slam Inc.) and we are already making plans for the National Events: IWPS 2012 and NPS 2013.

If you are not into slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we do have an open mic for poetry and spoken word before the slam starting at 7:30PM.

Sign up begins at 7:00PM, open mic starts at 7:30PM, and the slam starts at 8:00PM.

Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID)

NITTY GRITTY SLAM takes place at Valentines (17 New Scotland Ave.) on the first and third Tuesday’s of each and every month.

More information and full scoring results can be found at http://nittygrittyslam.com/

We are always looking for people to help us spread the word about the Nitty Gritty Slam and all of the poetry and spoken word events in the area. If you are interested in volunteering some time to hand out flyers, please send us an email at info@albanypoets.com and we can make it happen.
