Here is a look at all of the spoken word and poetry events, open mics, readings, slams, and workshops coming up this week in the region.
Bob Sharkey is the editor of the annual Stephen A DiBiase Poetry Contest. He’s a long-term board member of the Hudson Valley Writers Guild where he is now the membership person. Surface at Sunrise, his second chapbook, is currently available. Although his poems have been published in many journals, he prefers the immediate feedback from open mics and from opportunities to read as a feature. He started his writing career at St. Patrick’s grammar school in Portland Maine.

The Poets Speak Loud open mic series continues at McGeary’s in downtown Albany on Monday, March 26, with featured reader Bob Sharkey.
The Stephen A DiBiase Poetry Prize is now accepting submissions. There is no fee to enter and is open to all. The deadline is Jan 30, 2018.

Call for Submissions: Second Annual Stephen A DiBiase Poetry Prize. January 21, 2017 post mark deadline. Results in March 2017. $1,800 in total awards, with $500 to the top entry from New York State, $300 to the top out-of-State entry.
Dan Wilcox and Nancy Klepsch hosted the 2nd Sunday at 2, Poetry and Prose open mic at the Arts Center in Troy with 15 poets on the list.
The 28th Annual “Day of Poet” Poetry Contest and Open Mic will take place Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the William K. Sanford Library.
