The COW series continues this Saturday, August 4 (after a couple of recent cancellations) at Outdated – An Antique Cafe. This great poetry open mic series is usually hosted by Phillip Levine, but this time around there are going to be two sub-hosts (Bruce Weber and Joanne Pagano Weber) filling his shoes. This month the featured poets are writers from the Mayapple Writers’ Retreat; Irene Mitchell, Judith Kerman, Diane Sautter Cole, and Gerry Connolly.
This series has been featuring some of the best Hudson Valley poets since it began last year. There are some incredible poets coming up including Jacqueline Ahl, Mike Jurkovic, and Rebecca Schumejda. Scroll down for the complete lineup for the rest of the year.

Judith Kerman has published seven collections of poetry, most recently Galvanic Response (March Street Press), and two books of translations of Cuban and Dominican women poets (White Pine Press, BOA Editions). She was a Fulbright Scholar in the Dominican Republic in 2002. She founded Earth’s Daughters magazine in Buffalo,.NY (1971 to present) and runs Mayapple Press, located in Woodstock, NY.
Diane Sautter Cole teaches English at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. Her book, Why The Heron Is Blue, was published by March Street Press. She is a long-time participant in the predecessor to Woodstock Mayapple Writers’ Retreat, called Rustbelt Roethke and held in Saginaw, Michigan from 2003 through 2011.
Geraldine Connolly was born and raised in western Pennsylvania, has published three poetry collections: Food for the Winter (Purdue), Province of Fire (Iris Press) and Hand of the Wind (Iris Press). She has won two NEA fellowships, the Yeats Society of NY Prize and has had work appear in many anthologies. One of her poems was broadcast on Garrison Keillor’s The Writers Almanac.Irene Mitchell a long-time teacher of writing, is the author of A Study of Extremes in Six Suites (Cherry Grove, 2012), and Sea Wind on the White Pillow (Axes Mundi, 2009). Formerly poetry editor of Hudson River Art Journal, Mitchell serves as poetry contest juror, and facilitator of poetry workshops.

All shows are held at Outdated (an antique cafe) in Uptown Kingston (314 Wall St.). Doors open at 7pm; start time is 7:30. Features perform for approximately 20 to 25 mins. each, with open mic before and after. Cover charge is $5; Drink included.
Phillip X Levine is a poet, editor and performer. He is poetry editor for Chronogram and president of the Woodstock Poetry Society & Festival (www.woodstockpoetry.com). From 2001-2008, he hosted a popular weekly reading series at The Colony Cafe, one of the most storied venues for poets and musicians in Woodstock, NY. This OPEN WORD series is an evolution of The Colony series.
