Ancestors and Other Poems is a recently self-published book of poetry available on Amazon by local poet Margaret McGowan.
McGowan says of the new collection of poetry, “Many of the poems focus on growing up in a working-class neighborhood. The title poem depicts facets of self-realization.”
Margaret McGowan is a poet who lives in Schenectady, NY with her husband Mike. She also read at open mics early on in the local poetry scene when she was known as Margaret Smalec.
McGowan received an Honorable mention in the 2019 Hudson Valley Writers Guild Poetry Contest. Dan Wilcox attended the reading honoring the contest winners and wrote, “Her honored poem was titled “Hush,” about walking to escape the tensions & pressures around her.” Other poems that she read at that event were “Passage”, “Ancestors”, “More”, and “Hoping that Would Sleep.”
