Inspired by Natalie Goldman’s recent book The True Secret of Writing: Connecting Life with Language, join us for a morning meditation, movement and writing retreat.

7:00 pm – Poetic Vibe

Poetic Vibe is a weekly Poetry Open Mic with featured local and regional poets hosted by D. Colin in downtown Troy. This week’s featured poet is Mojavi.

7:30 pm – Front Parlor
The Olde English Pub, 25 Quackenbush Square, Albany, NY
A storytelling night at The Olde English Pub with a different theme each month hosted by Gregor Wynnyczuk. This month’s theme is “My First Time”.



Tuesday, December 17

7:00 pm – Brass Tacks
The Low Beat, 335 Central Ave., Albany, NY
The Brass Tacks Poetry + Spoken Word Open Mic series, hosted by Thom Francis, continues at The Low Beat in Albany on Tuesday, December 17 with a special Festivus celebration.

7:00 pm – Colonie Tuesday Night Live Poets’ Corner
William K. Sanford Town Library, 629 Albany Shaker Road, Loudonville, NY
Local poets and writers of all ages are invited to present six to ten minutes of their original work at this open reading forum. The public is encouraged to stop in and listen.

7:00 pm – Club Helsinki Open Mic
Club Helsinki, 405 Columbia Street, Hudson, NY
A weekly open mic for music, performance, and poetry on the incredible Club Helsinki stage.

8:00 pm – Northampton Poetry Community
The Resistance Center, 2 Conz St, Suite 2B Northampton, MA
Poetry editing workshop. Bring printed copies of poem to workshop with the group. Free.


Wednesday, December 18

6:30 pm – Wednesday’s Milkweed Poetry
Milkweed Sugar Loaf, 2 & 3 Romer’s Alley, Chester, NY
A weekly gathering, hosted by Richard Kersting and Wendy Insinger, with a new featured poet each week. Bring a dish to share if you’d like. Suggested: $4 / person

6:45 pm – Calling All Writers

Ten Minute Open Mic – Bring on your ten-minute play, prose excerpt, longer poem, special set. First signups, first served.

7:00 pm – Third Thursday Poetry Night
Social Justice Center, 33 Central Ave., Albany, NY
Dan Wilcox hosts this open mic for poetry and spoken word featuring poet Rebecca Schumejda.

7:30 pm – Utica Poets Society Spoken Word Open Mic
The Other Side Gallery, 2011 Genesee Street, Utica, NY
Weekly open mic for poetry and spoken word with a non-mandatory theme.

The Troy Creative Writing Meetup brings you this weekly gathering where you’ll share your work and progress with other writers.

8:00 pm – Hudson Valley Writers’ Center Open Mic Night
Hudson Valley Writers’ Center, 300 Riverside Drive, Sleepy Hollow, NY
Featured Poets + open mike for poets, fiction writers, essayists with rotating hosts. Located in the restored Philipse Manor railroad station, which is approx. 30 miles north of midtown Manhattan and 2.6 miles north of the Tappan Zee Bridge.

4:00 pm – Bi-Weekly Writer’s Critique
