Upcoming Poetry Events – Week of April 14, 2019

So much going on in the local poetry and spoken word community. Here is a look at all of the poetry events, readings, slams, and workshops coming up this week in the region.

 

Sunday, April 14

11:00am – Outliers Poetry Brunch

2:00pm – 2nd Sunday @ 2 – Poetry + Prose
The Arts Center of The Capital Region, 265 River Street, Troy, NY
A monthly open mic for writers of poetry and prose on the 2nd Sunday of each month at The Arts Center of The Capital Region with your hosts Nancy Klepsch and Dan Wilcox.

 

Monday, April 15

7:00pm – Poetic Vibe

Poetic Vibe is a weekly Poetry Open Mic with featured local and regional poets hosted by D. Colin in downtown Troy. This week’s featured poet is Kareem Ture.

7:00pm – Word Fest Night of Features
Hudson River Coffee House, 227 Quail Street, Albany, NY
The 2019 Word Fest presents a “Night of Features” with poets Avery StempelKaren FabianeLuis Pabon, and Danielle Pouliot at the Hudson River Coffee House. This event is hosted by Thom Francis and R.M. Engelhardt.

7:30pm – Front Parlor
The Olde English Pub, 25 Quackenbush Square, Albany, NY
A storytelling night at The Olde English Pub with a different theme each month hosted by Gregor Wynnyczuk.

 

Tuesday, April 16

7:00pm – Brass Tacks Featuring Influence
The Low Beat, 335 Central Ave., Albany, NY
The 2019 Word Fest continues as Albany Poets presents the Brass Tacks Poetry + Spoken Word Open Mic, hosted by Thom Francis at The Low Beat. Our special featured poet for the Word Fest is Influence!

7:00pm – Colonie Tuesday Night Live Poets’ Corner
William K. Sanford Town Library, 629 Albany Shaker Road, Loudonville, NY
Local poets and writers of all ages are invited to present six to ten minutes of their original work at this open reading forum. The public is encouraged to stop in and listen.

7:00pm – Club Helsinki Open Mic
Club Helsinki, 405 Columbia Street, Hudson, NY
A weekly open mic for music, performance, and poetry on the incredible Club Helsinki stage.

7:00pm – Emack and Bolio’s Open Mic Night
Emack & Bolio’s, Delaware Ave., Albany, NY
A weekly open mic for music and poetry.

8:00pm – Northampton Poetry Community
World War II Club, 50 Conz St., Northampton, MA
Northampton’s only weekly open mic poetry night offers some of the best, most creative voices in the county. Every Tuesday night at 8:00pm.

 

Wednesday, April 17

6:30pm – What is Poetry?
Psychedelicatessen, 275 River St, Troy, NY
Relaxed open mic, hosted by Avery Stempel, in a psychedelic environment. Guests sit in the cozy chairs of the back room and share what they think is poetry usually followed by thoughtful discussion on art, poetry, life, and what it means to create.

7:00pm – Up The River, Issue Seven Launch Reading

The 2019 Word Fest presents a the Up The River, Issue Seven Launch Reading with poets Matt GallettaRoberta GouldRobert A. MillerMary Cuffe PerezGeorge Payne, and Thomas Bonville at Restuarant Navona. This event is hosted by Mary Panza and Carissa Haberland.

7:00pm – The REV presents Raquel Salas Rivera and Raza Ali Hasan

As the capstone to both our year of REV and World Series events, join us for readings by Raquel Salas Rivera and Raza Ali Hasan. Free and open to the public.

7:00pm – BYOV!

A “Bring Your Own Vinyl, Bring Your Own Voice” open mic hosted by Mike Jurkovic.

7:30pm – Next Year’s Words featuring Lori A. Moseman, Anne Gorrick, and Kate Hymes
Jewish Congregation of New Paltz Community Center, 30 North Chestnut Street, New Paltz, NY
Next Year’s Words, the popular New Paltz Literary Forum, will feature three remarkable poets to celebrate National Poetry Month at the Jewish Congregation of New Paltz Community Center on Wednesday, April 17.

 

Thursday, April 18

6:30pm – Third Thursday Literary Open Mic
The Parlor Cafe, 303 Ashland St, North Adams, MA
All poets have approximately 5-8 minutes(or 2 pieces) depending on the evening. You are encouraged to bring poems, prose, lyrics, essays, etc, be it yours or written by someone else. This is a safe space, come use your beautiful voices!

7:00pm – Third Thursday Poetry Night
Social Justice Center, 33 Central Ave., Albany, NY
Dan Wilcox hosts this open mic for poetry and spoken word featuring poet Caroline Bardwell.

7:00pm – Rockhill Bakehouse Open Mic
Rockhill Bakehouse Cafe, 19 Exchange Street, Glens Falls, NY
Weekly open mic for musicians and writers.

7:30pm – Utica Poets Society Spoken Word Open Mic
The Other Side, 2011 Genesee Street, Utica, NY
Weekly open mic for poetry and spoken word with a non-mandatory theme.

8:00pm – Voice Less Readings
Green Kill Gallery, 229 Greenkill Avenue, Kingston, NY
Voice Less is a weekly reading series hosted by Noah David Roberts focused on giving those who feel like their art is not heard a place where they can share, listen, and become inspired.

8:00pm – Starving Artist Thursdays
Hudson River Coffee House, 227 Quail Street, Albany, NY
A weekly open mic for music, poetry, and spoken word at one of Albany’s best coffee shops.

 

Friday, April 19

7:00pm – Word Fest Invitational Slam
Troy Kitchen, 77 Congress Street, Troy, NY
The 2019 Word Fest presents the 7th Annual Word Fest Invitational Slam, where teams from all over the Northeast will come together to compete for prizes and bragging rights. The Word Fest Invitational Slam is the exclamation point on an amazing week of open mics, featured readings, and dynamic poetry and spoken word.

8:00pm – Hudson Valley Writers’ Center Open Mic Night
Hudson Valley Writers’ Center, 300 Riverside Drive, Sleepy Hollow, NY
Featured Poets + open mike for poets, fiction writers, essayists with rotating hosts. Located in the restored Philipse Manor railroad station, which is approx. 30 miles north of midtown Manhattan and 2.6 miles north of the Tappan Zee Bridge.

 

Saturday, April 20

9:00am – Word Fest Book Fair
Troy Farmers Market, Troy, NY
New this year, the organizers of Word Fest are seeking publishers of local presses and local authors to submit their books to us for sharing at this year’s Word Fest on Saturday, April 20.  We’ll be outside of the Fourth Street corridor on the first floor of the Troy Farmer’s market.  We can take donations for your books.

7:00pm – Mudd Poets Poetry Series 
Mudd Puddle Cafe, 10 Main Street, New Paltz, NY
Monthly poetry open mic series with featured poets G. Emil Reutter and Diane Sahms-Guarnieri with host Robert Milby.
