Northshire Bookstore, Saratoga Springs, NY: During the month of April, Northshire Bookstore will host public events in Saratoga Springs. Unless otherwise noted, these events are free and open to the public and will take place at Northshire Bookstore Saratoga, 424 Broadway.

Wednesday, April 3 at 6 pm – Box Brown in conversation – Cannabis: The Illegalization of Weed in America
Award-winning author/artist Box Brown, author of Northshire staff favorite graphic novels including Andre the Giant and Is This Guy for Real will discuss his new book with Skidmore College professor Paul Benzon. This book is a rich, entertaining and thoroughly researched graphic essay on the history of cannabis legislation in America.

Friday, April 5 at 6 pm – Poetry Reading with Chase Twichell, Margaret Gibson & Jessica Hornik
We are excited to celebrate National Poetry Month with a poetry reading by acclaimed poets Chase Twichell, Margaret Gibson and Jessica Hornik. The three poets will read from their recent collections, Things as it Is, Not Hearing the Wood Thrush, and A Door on the River.

Saturday, April 6 at 7 pm – Bick Wanck – Mind Easing: The Three-Layered Healing Plan for Anxiety and Depression
Author and psychiatrist Bick Wanck will share his book and his healing plan for the three essential causes of anxiety and depression. This book is intended as a guide for both mental health practitioners and for general readers. Bick Wanck is one of the founders of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry.

Monday, April 8 at 6 pm – Pulitzer Prize Finalist Luis Alberto Urrea – The House of Broken Angels
Pulitzer Prize-finalist Luis Alberto Urrea will share his riveting novel about the De La Cruzes, a family on the Mexican-American border, celebrating two of their most beloved relatives during a joyous and bittersweet weekend. “A novel like The House of Broken Angels is a radical act. Friday, April 12 at 7 pm – Matt Lesniewsky in conversation – The Freak
Author & artist Matt Lesniewsky will celebrate the publication of his debut graphic novel. Lesniewsky will discuss the book and his art with Chris Martinez of the Evil Geek Podcast. The Freak tells the story of a man thought of as the world’s ugliest man.

Thursday, April 18 at 12 noon – Lunch at Hattie’s Restaurant with Juliette Fay – City of Flickering Light

Northshire Bookstore is thrilled to join in the celebration of the fifth annual Independent Bookstore Day. We’ll have special limited edition items available for purchase, refreshments, activities and more!

–From 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. drop by to meet Richelle Ford of Ford’s Falconry and her birds of prey. Ms. Ford will have several birds with her and will be giving an ongoing interactive presentation.
