Rensselaerville Library’s National Poetry Month Celebration

Rensselaerville LibraryThe Rensselaerville Library just released information on their upcoming ‘s 13th Annual Celebration of National Poetry Month.

 

Today’s Poem on the Web

Last year, the Rensselaerville Library’s Poem-A-Day Project netted 1,769 page views! Again this year, the Library will feature one poem by a local or not-so-local poet each day for the 30 days of April. After the poem features, it will remain online for the rest of the month. Visit the Library’s website throughout the month to view a new poem each day.

 

Scheduled Events

New Books – Local Authors (Dawn Marar, Linda S. Miller, Katrinka Moore, Dianne Sefcik)
3:30 pm Sunday, April 15 at the Library
These four local poets will share from their new books, answer your questions and be available for book signings. Join us for an afternoon of poetry with wine and cheese reception.

Favorite Poem Project
2-4pm Sunday, April 29 at the Library
Bring a favorite poem (from childhood, school, an old lover, a magazine, adulthood, etc.) to share at the 13th Annual Favorite Poem Project. People of all ages are invited to participate in this Rensselaerville tradition of celebrating Poetry Month. Or just come listen as your friends and neighbors share poems they love. Join in an afternoon of poetry, good company, and refreshments, emceed by Claire North.
Readers may sign up at the Library beginning at 1:45 pm.

Communities around the country hold Favorite Poem readings as part of the Favorite Poem Project begun by former Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky in 1997.

Conkling Café Open Mic
7:30 pm Friday, April 20 at Conkling Hall
Conkling Café and the Library are collaborating during poetry month: so, bring your poems, sonnets, haikus and lyrics to share. All musical genres, spoken word, and performance art are welcome. Equipment is provided.

Come participate watch and listen to what your friends and neighbors are creating. Sign up at 7pm to perform. Open Mic is a monthly event and all ages welcome.
