Featured Poet – Margo Mensing

Margo Mensing has long been cutting up and reassembling texts and cloth, lately concentrating on poetry. Formerly professor of Studio Art at Skidmore College and Resident Artist in Fiber at Cranbrook Academy of Art, her visual art and work with words frequently coincide as was seen in the exhibit Staying Power at the Albany Airport Gallery (June 2016-January 2017).

She wrote, I Step Out Of My Likeness, by cutting and rearranging words from Denise Levertov’s Collected Poems. Another manuscript, Almost a Member of the Family (2014) focuses on the work and lives of Dorothea Lange and Maynard Dixon.  Margo Mensing’s poems have appeared in La Presa, Tupelo Quarterly, Chronogram, First Literary Review -East, and Thoughtsmith. Her personal essay, “Canceled,” was published in Gastronomica.
