Poet Kathleen McCoy will read from her work at the Social Justice Center, 33 Central Avenue, Albany, on Thursday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m.
Kathleen McCoy is the author of More Water Than Words (Finishing Line Press, 2017), Green and Burning, Glas Agus a Dhó (Word Tech, 2016) and the chapbook Night-blooming Cereus and Other Poems (Adirondack FemSoul, 2007). She grew up in the Ohio Valley in Rio Grande and graduated from Georgetown College and the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she was a creative writing fellow and earned masters and doctorate degrees in poetry writing and modern literature. She organizes 100 Thousand Poets for Change at SUNY Adirondack in upstate New York where she also chairs the English Division.
This month’s Third Thursday Poetry Night is part of the annual Albany WordFest coordinated by AlbanyPoets.com. For more information about the week-long event, including the return of the 24-hour Readings Against the End of the World, visit their website.
A reading by a local or regional poet is held each Third Thursday at the Social Justice Center. The event includes an open mic for audience members to read. Sign-up starts at 7 p.m., with the reading beginning at 7:30. The host of the readings is Albany poet and photographer Dan Wilcox. The suggested donation is $3, which helps support this and other poetry programs of the Poetry Motel Foundation and the work of the Social Justice Center.
