Women’s Invitational Poetry Slam

Olivia McKee

On Saturday, February 25 at 7 p.m., following the 10×10 Festival Fireworks on the First Street Common, the Whitney Center for the Arts (42 Wendell Ave, Pittsfield) plays host to some verbal fireworks! Poets from Albany, Amherst, Worcester as well as the Berkshires are scheduled to compete. For this event, the Whit will be set up cabaret style with a cash bar.

Hosted by Melissa Quirk Cairns with Amani Olugbala, Olivia McKee, Elizag, Mariah Barber, Grace Rossman, Natalia Whalen, Ashley Wonder, and A.T. Halaby.

A poetry slam is a friendly competition that puts emphasis on both writing and performance. Poets are judged olympic-style, from zero to ten, by volunteers from the audience. Poetry slams are lively, boisterous, fast-paced and occasionally irreverent events. Content often reflects/addresses challenging societal issues, and the current climate is ripe for the picking. For this event, WordXWord has invited a wide range of female performance poets to take the spotlight and wrap up the festival with some verbal fireworks!

The audience is advised that this program may contain explicit content.
