Upcoming Poetry Events – Week of February 26, 2017

We have another great week of poetry readings, open mics, events, and slams in the area to celebrate and appreciate the art of spoken word. Here is a look at what is coming up in our poetry community this week…

 

Sunday, February 26

2:00pm – Divine Write Reading + Workshop Series 
The Beer Diviner Taproom, 461 Broadway, Troy, NY
Divine Write is a reading & workshop series held once monthly in Troy, NY. The event allows local writers to share both their work and their practice with the community. Participants will get to listen to a traditional reading and then be led through a short workshop by the featured writers K.A Laity and Jim LaBate.

2:00pm – Megaphone 
Seligmann Center at the Citizen’s Foundation, 24 White Oak Drive, Sugar Loaf, NY
Janet Hamill and William Seaton will present a program on the négritude Movement, a grouping of Caribbean and African writers, artists, and intellectuals influenced by Surrealism.

 

Monday, February 27

7:00pm – Poetic Vibe

Poetic Vibe is a weekly Poetry Open Mic with featured local and regional poets hosted by D. Colin in downtown Troy.

7:30pm – Poets Speak Loud
McGeary’s, 4 Clinton Square, Albany, NY
Poets Speak Loud is Albany Poets’ monthly open mic for poetry and spoken word hosted by Mary Panza. This month’s featured poet is Alifair Skebe.

 

Tuesday, February 28

A weekly open mic for music and poetry.

7:00pm – Rensselaerville Library Poetry Group
Rensselaerville Library, 1459 County Route 351, Rensselaerville, NY
Bring your poem and receive feedback from fellow poets, or just share your words at the Rensselaerville Library Poetry Group on the Second and Fourth Tuesdays of each month.

8:00pm – Northampton Poetry Open Mic
World War II Club, 50 Conz St., Northampton, MA
Northampton’s only weekly open mic poetry night offers some of the best, most creative voices in the county. Academic or slam, spoken word or political: Your words are welcome.

The ”Albany Area Poetry Chat” is open to the public, free, and meets in public cafe of Honest Weight Food Coop to discuss poetry and literature.

Open mic with featured poet hosted by Robert Milby.

7:00pm – Rockhill Bakehouse Open Mic

8:00pm – Starving Artist Thursdays

The Yes! Poetry & Performance Series continues the spring season at the new Albany Center Gallery with poets Dora Malech and Stephanie Kaylor as well as tuba player Andy Larson (featuring text from Kelly Grant).
