Calling All Poets 8th Annual Poetry Marathon & Hudson Valley Book Fair

2016MARATHONCalling All Poets, celebrating 17 years as one of the Hudson Valley’s longest running poetry performance series, is holding the 8th Annual Poetry Marathon and Hudson Valley Book Fair on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Roost Studios (69 Main Street, New Paltz, NY) stating at noon.

This year’s event will feature over 40 poets from all over Upstate New York. Admission is just $5.00 ($4.00 for CAPS and Roost Members, $3.00 for students and seniors).

New to the Marathon this year is the Hudson Valley Book Fair, where poets and regional publishers will display and have their books for sale. Some of the publishers representing their works will be Post Traumatic Press from Woodstock and Lion Autumn Publishing from NYC.

On the first Friday of every month since 1999, Calling All Poets has welcomed and nurtured poets and their patrons throughout the Hudson Valley, NYC, Albany, and the tri-state area. The diverse community of voices and open, democratic forum provide novice and veteran poets alike a creative atmosphere to exercise their voices and listen to their peers.

The colorful CAPS banner has born witness to such nationally recognized voices as poet/playwright Irene O’Garden; poet/photographer Eddie Bell; publisher/editors Steven Hirsch, Susan Sindall, and Don Lev, as well as Hudson Valley notables Barbara Adams, Will Nixon, Teresa Marta Costa, Carl Welden, Cheryl A. Rice, Janet Hamill, Kate Hymes, Matthew J. Spireng, Bill Seaton, and Roberta Gould.

2016 has been a watershed year for CAPS. Their recent certification as 501(c)(3) non-profit will enable us to expand their program. Partnering with Roost Studios provides a greater community presence. The second CAPS Anthology 2015 is hot off the presses. CAPSCASTS, archival readings from the series, can be heard on Beacon’s Community Internet Radio Station, SoundCloud, YouTube, and their recently reconstructed website, www.callingallpoets.net.

Live streaming of our events and the streaming of poets from afar, has taken Calling All Poets well beyond the Hudson Valley. CAPS has recently launched an online fundraising campaign at www.gofundme.com/y8r9jc.
