Nitty Gritty Slam returns to The Low Beat on Tuesday, October 20 with NGS 104 – another great night of poetry and spoken word. New co-SlamMasters Jayton and Amani have a lot planned for the evening, including a featured performance from D. Colin. You are not going to want to miss it.
D. Colin, otherwise known as Danielle Colin Charlestin off the stage, has been writing poetry since childhood, discovering many of her talents inside the church. Her writing is heavily inspired by spirituality, Haiti, personal experience and the intersection between race, class and gender. In college, D. Colin majored in English with a concentration in creative writing at Southern CT State University. After earning her bachelors, she went on to earn a Masters in Africana Studies from University at Albany. Danielle was a member of the first Nitty Gritty Slam team to go to the National Poetry Slam in 2012 and will be releasing her first collection of poems titled Dreaming in Kreyol this Fall.
Doors open for NGS 104 at 6:45 and the Open Mic starts at 7:00. Admission is $3 before 7:15, $5 after.
