The second half of Season Four of Nitty Gritty Slam kicks off on Tuesday, December 2 at The Low Beat with a very special featured poet, Thomas Fucaloro.
Thomas Fucaloro earned an MFA from NYU and a FU from the school of hard knocks. He was on the 2014 slam team at The Louder Arts Project, where he leads writing workshops. He also teaches at the Acorn Youth Treatments Center, the Neon Bronx Probation Center, and Writopia Lab. He lives on Staten Island. He’s a Trekkie. People say he looks like Robin Williams. He has no idea what they mean, but then again he knows exactly what they mean.
At the last slam we saw Elizag, Amani, and Samson Dikeman move on to the Grand Slam in the spring joining Kevin Peterson (Season Three Champion of Champions). With the next semi-final on the horizon, who will come out and make their mark on the NGS stage and put points on the board?
If you’re not into competing in the slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic hosted by Kevin Peterson before the slam. Sign up begins at 7:00pm, open mic starts at 7:30, and then Thom Francis starts the slam at 8:00pm. Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.
If you can’t make it out to the show that night, be sure to follow along on Twitter – #NGS83.
Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series have brought slam back to Albany with the Nitty Gritty Slam at The Low Beat (335 Central Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.
