Poetry returns to the Pine Hollow Arboretum in Slingerlands on Friday, November 7 at 6:30 p.m. with two featured readers, Dan Wilcox and Joe Krausman, for the Poets of Earth, Water, Tree and Sky open mic.
Dan Wilcox is the host of the Third Thursday Poetry Night at the Social Justice Center in Albany, N.Y. and is a member of the poetry performance group “3 Guys from Albany”. He has been a featured reader at all the important poetry venues in the Capital District & throughout the Hudson Valley and is an active member of Veterans for Peace. He also publishes poetry under the imprint, A.P.D. (albany’s poetic device, agnominal pleading data, etc.). His own poems are down-the-line, inherent and subject to international copy write restrictions. He has a poem about recycling his love poems which is pretty darn honest. He once said: “I think it is possible to build/maintain a poetry community where ever you are, with a little work & a passion for what you want.”
Joe Krausman is a long-time notable of the Albany poetry scene. He has an extensive background in the written and theatre arts. His plays have been performed. His poems are extensile, nobby, and unprudent. and often use humor to make their point. He has many poems about animals. He doesn’t have a poem about a” meek rat” but does have poem about “rat”. He thinks if you have a poem about a rat that a meek rat poem is unnecessary. He also has poems about “death” and “arguing with yourself (either internally or out loud)”. Always ready to party, he will bring excellent professionalism to the Pine Hollow Arboretum Open Mic and party afterwards.
The Open Mic for writers and poets will be offered as usual. Poets can read three short poems or two longer poems or two pages of prose will be acceptable. There will be light refreshments offered. Donations welcomed. Contact Alan Casline at acasline@aol.com for more information.
Funding to support this Reading Series comes from Hudson Valley Writers Guild and Rootdrinker Institute.
