We are back at The Low Beat on Tuesday, September 2 to kick off Season Four of Nitty Gritty Slam with featured poet Sean Patrick Mulroy.
Sean has performed his poetry in 10 countries, 3 continents and 16 national poetry competitions. At this year’s IWPS, he will represent the Boston Poetry Slam, where he serves as co-host. He is a 2013 Lambda Literary Fellow and has work in or coming soon in Muzzle, Nailed, Moonshot, Union Station, Frigg, qu.ee/r, and Best Indie Literature of New England.
At the last slam we crowed the Season Three Champion of Champions in Kevin Peterson after a very exciting final round between KP and Bless. Now we are ready to start fresh. All of the points have been reset to zero and everyone is on a level playing field.
Who will be the first winner of the season? Who will raise the bar and set their sights on #TeamNittyGritty 2015? All of those questions will be answered when we start Season Four at NGS 77.
If you’re not into competing in the slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic before the slam. Sign up begins at 7:00pm, open mic starts at 7:30, and then Thom Francis starts the slam at 8:00pm. Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.
If you can’t make it out to the show that night, be sure to follow along on Twitter! We will be live tweeting pictures and results all night at @NittyGrittySlam and #NGS77.
Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series have brought slam back to Albany with the Nitty Gritty Slam at The Low Beat (335 Central Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.
