We are back at The Low Beat on Tuesday, August 5 for the 75th edition of Nitty Gritty Slam with the great Rico Frederick from New York City as our featured poet.
Rico Frederick is a fun-loving Trinidadian transplant, a full-time Art Director and the author of Broken Calypsonian a collection of poetry published by Penmanship books. Rico is the first poet ever to represent all four New York City poetry venues at the National Poetry Slam. He is a four-time Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam Finalist, 2010 Grand Slam Champion of The LouderARTS Project, and 2012 Grand Slam Champion of Jersey City Slam. He loves gummy bears & pistachio ice cream, scribbles poems on the backs of maps in hopes they will take him someplace new.
Again at this slam, and all summer long, we are back with our Old School Slam format. Everyone is welcome to sign up and compete in the traditional “8-4-2″ slam for cash prizes.
This is going to be another great night of poetry and spoken word as we continue our awesome Summer of Slam in right here, in Albany, NY. We have some very exciting slams so far this season with a lot of new faces taking the stage and sharing their words.
If you can’t make it out to the show that night, be sure to follow along on Twitter! We will be live tweeting pictures and results all night at @NittyGrittySlam and #NGS75.
Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series have brought slam back to Albany with the Nitty Gritty Slam at The Low Beat (335 Central Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.
