We are back at The Low Beat on Tuesday, July 15 with the 74th edition of Nitty Gritty Slam!
At this slam, and all summer long, we are back with our Old School Slam format. Everyone is welcome to sign up and compete in the traditional “8-4-2″ slam for cash prizes. After winning her third straight slam at NGS #73, can Amanda be stopped? And as we get closer to the annual Night of Champions, who will step up and grab the win to secure their place at the big show?
This is going to be another great night of poetry and spoken word as we continue our awesome Summer of Slam in right here, in Albany, NY and will be the start to a huge week for Team Nitty Gritty. The team will also be performing on Friday, July 18 at The Linda and then going to the Urbana slam in New York City for a regional bout on Tuesday, July 22.

Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series have brought slam back to Albany with the Nitty Gritty Slam at The Low Beat (335 Central Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.
If you’re not into slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic before the slam. Sign up begins at 7:00pm, the open mic, hosted by Kevin Peterson starts at 7:30, and then Thom Francis starts the slam at 8:00pm. Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.
