We are back at The Low Beat on Tuesday, June 3 with the 71st edition of Nitty Gritty Slam!
At the last slam, NGS #70, we had our Grand Slam and put together Team Nitty Gritty 2014 with Algorhythm, Bless, Poetyc Visionz, Daniel Summerhill, Kevin Peterson, and Billy Buchanon. These incredible local poets will be representing Albany and NGS at events all summer long starting with a featured performance at the D. Colin‘s Between The Lines open mic in Troy on June 13.
At this first slam after the very exciting team selection tournament, we are back with our Old School Slam format. Everyone is welcome to sign up and compete in the traditional “8-4-2″ slam for cash prizes. We will also have a special raffle to help raise money for the slam team. What we are raffling off? T-shirts? CDs? Books? You never know what we will be bringing with us from Albany Poets HQ.
This is going to be a great night of poetry and spoken word as we kick off an awesome Summer of Slam in Albany.
If you can’t make it out to the show that night, be sure to follow along on Twitter! We will be live tweeting pictures and results all night at @NittyGrittySlam and #NGS71.
Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series have brought slam back to Albany with the Nitty Gritty Slam at The Low Beat (335 Central Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.
