On Tuesday, May 20, everyone will want to be at The Low Beat for the 2014 Grand Slam. The 70th edition of Nitty Gritty Slam will feature 8 poets who have competed all season and left it all on stage to make to this point. The winners of the Grand Slam will be the poets representing Albany and NGS at many events over the next year all over the region.
The Grand Slam will have an incredibly talented and dynamic group of poets including Kevin Peterson, Bless, Poetyc Visionz, Algorhythm, D. Colin, Daniel Summerhill, Elizag, and Dan Wilcox.
We have had a great third season at Nitty Gritty Slam and are very excited to field the team that will be representing our community in the coming months at events in the Capital Region and beyond. We have had so many talented poets and artists get on our stage and we can’t wait to find out who will be joining the elite group of poets who can be called #TeamNittyGritty.
* NOTE – This slam will not be an open slam. Only the above ten poets will be able to slam. The open mic will be for all poets and spoken word artists who want to step up to the mic with a special two poem limit.
If you can’t make it out to the show that night, be sure to follow along on Twitter! We will be live tweeting pictures and results all night at @NittyGrittySlam and #NGS70.
Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series have brought slam back to Albany with the Nitty Gritty Slam at The Low Beat (335 Central Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.
If you’re not into slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic before the slam. Sign up begins at 7:00pm, open mic starts at 7:30, and then Thom Francis starts the slam at 8:00pm. Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.
