Upcoming Poetry Events – Week of March 30, 2014

Open Mic

We are kicking off National Poetry Month big in our poetry community. We’re starting the week with three great shows right in a row with Poets Speak Loud on Monday, Nitty Gritty Slam featuring Jared Paul on Tuesday, and the great Caffe Lena Poetry Open Mic on Wednesday. And that’s not all, there is a whole week’s worth of events happening all over the area.

Here’s the full lineup of what is going on the our community this coming week…

Monday, March 31

7:30pm – Poets Speak Loud Roast of Mary Panza
McGeary’s, 4 Clinton Square, Albany, NY
Poets Speak Loud is Albany Poets’ monthly open mic for poetry and spoken word with a featured poet. This month the long-running open mic will be roasted host and Albany Poets VP Mary Panza.

8:00pm – Club Harmony
Wok ‘N Roll Cafe, 52 Mill Hill Road, Woodstock, NY
Weekly poetry open mic with featured reader hosted by Michael Platsky.

 

Tuesday, April 1

7:00pm – Club Helsinki Open Mic
Club Helsinki, 405 Columbia Street, Hudson, NY
A weekly open mic for music, performance, and poetry on the incredible Club Helsinki stage.

7:00pm – Nitty Gritty Slam #67 – Team Nitty Gritty Semi-Final with Jared Paul
Valentine’s, 17 New Scotland Ave., Albany, NY
We are back at The Low Beat on Tuesday, April 1 for Nitty Gritty Slam. This edition of NGS will be the second Semi-Final with featured poet Jared Paul. Sign up begins at 7PM, open mic starts at 7:30, and the slam starts at 8PM. Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.

7:00pm – Emack and Bolio’s Open Mic Night
Emack & Bolio’s, Delaware Ave., Albany, NY
A weekly open mic for music and poetry

7:00pm – Poetry in the Community
Russell Sage College, 65 1st Street, Troy, NY
Kicking off National Poetry Month and Sage Poetry Blitz on the Troy campus with a panel on Poetry in the Capital District. Part reading, part community share, part Q & A w/ a panel of various local doers and makers.

8:00pm – Northampton Poetry Open Mic
Hinge, 48 Main St., Northampton, MA
Northampton’s only weekly open mic poetry night offers some of the best, most creative voices in the county. Every Tuesday night at 8:00pm. Come down and listen. Come down and share your words. Academic or slam, spoken word or political: Your words are welcome.

 

Wednesday, April 2

7:00pm – Caffe Lena Poetry Open Mic
Caffe Lena, 47 Phila Street, Saratoga Springs, NY
Open mic for poetry and spoken word hosted by Carol Graser at the historic Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs with featured poets Catherine Norr and Susan Riback.

7:00pm – Poetry Nite at the Last Bite
Last Bite Cafe, 103 Main Street, High Falls, NY
Poetry Nite at the Last Bite is a monthly poetry reading with featured poets, hosted by the great Donald Lev.

 

Thursday, April 3

7:00pm – Rockhill Bakehouse Open Mic
Rockhill Bakehouse Cafe, 19 Exchange Street, Glens Falls, NY
Weekly open mic for musicians and writers.

7:00pm – Noble Coffee Roasters
Noble Coffee Roasters, 3020 Route 207, Campbell Hall, NY
Open mic with a featured poet on the first Thursday of each and every month hosted by Robert Milby.

8:00pm – Starving Artist Thursdays
Hudson River Coffee House, 227 Quail Street, Albany, NY 12203
A weekly open Mic for music, poetry, and spoken word at one of Albany’s best new coffee shops.

 

Friday, April 4

7:30pm – Calling All Poets
Howland Cultural Center, 477 Main Street, Beacon, NY
Calling All Poets is a monthly open mic series, hosted by Jim EveMike Jurkovic, and Robert Milby, with two featured readers at the beautiful and historic Howland Cultural Center in Beacon.

8:00pm – The Parlor Cafe Open Mic
The Parlor Cafe, 303 Ashland Street, North Adams, MA
A weekly open mic each and every Friday at the Parlor Cafe in North Adams for poets, musicians, and artists. Signup at the bar and get ready for the show, starting at 8:00pm.

 

Saturday, April 5

3:30pm – Poetry on the Loose
Seligmann Studio, 23 White Oak Drive, Sugar Loaf, NY
Poetry on the Loose is a monthly poetry and spoken word open mic series that takes place on the first Saturday of each month with a featured reader, hosted by William Seaton.
