Poet and spoken word artist Karen Schoemer will give two area performances in March as part of the Schoemer Formation, a three-piece live band featuring guitar, keyboards and bass.

Karen Schoemer, a former music critic for the New York Times and Newsweek, is a poet and author living in Columbia County. Her book Great Pretenders: My Strange Love Affair with ‘50s Pop Music was published in 2006 and she has contributed to numerous anthologies, including Leonard Cohen on Leonard Cohen: Interviews and Encounters (Chicago Review Press, 2014). Her poetry has appeared in Chronogram and Zephyrs. She has released two spoken word EPs with the British artist Detective Instinct: Schoemer Songs and Falling in Lilacs, on the independent label Third Uncle.
