Nitty Gritty Slam storms back to Valentine’s, on Tuesday, January 21 for the 62nd edition of Albany’s only poetry slam series and this time around we are doing something a little different.
For NGS #62 we are bringing back one of the most fun and hilarious themed poetry nights in our history, Bad Lyric Night! It has been almost four years since the last Bad Lyric Night, but on January 21, due to popular demand, it makes it’s return.
This time around though there is a twist, the bad lyrics will be slammed! Of course, we will still have an open mic for poetry and spoken word, but the recitation of some of the worst song lyrics of all time will take place under slam rules (except of course the rule about being the original author).
This second half of Season Three is off to a great start with surprises on the leader board. After his big win at NGS #61, Algorhythm is on top with Avery very close behind. Who will step up and wrestle the first place spot away from Algo and who will come out to collect more points on the way to the next Semi-Final? We have seen some new faces at the shows in the past few weeks and have been excited to hear new voices take the stage.
Who will enter the fray this time around and join us for another great night of poetry and spoken word? The road to NPS 2014 has begun and there is still time to get on board. The next stop is NGS #62.
Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series have brought slam back to Albany with the Nitty Gritty Slam.
NGS takes place at Valentine’s (17 New Scotland Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.
If you’re not into slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic before the slam.
Sign up begins at 7:00pm, open mic starts at 7:30, and then Thom Francis starts the slam at 8:00pm.
Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.
