Albany Poets Presents at The Linda on Saturday, January 18

Open Mic

On Saturday, January 18, 2014 Albany Poets is kicking off the New Year celebrating the poetry and spoken word of upstate New York at The Linda – WAMC’s Performing Arts Studio (339 Central Avenue, Albany). The event will take place at 8:00 PM and include a kickoff fundraising raffle to help support our efforts to raise awareness of the flourishing poetry community in the Albany area and performances from local poets Dan Wilcox, Mary Panza, Team Nitty Gritty 2013, and many more.

Albany Poets has been an active organization whose goal is to promote the poets and poetry of upstate New York since May of 2000.  We have published journals, established and run after school programs, compiled an easily accessible calendar of local poetry and spoken word events, performed as part of the LARKfest and Art on Lark street fairs, produced podcasts and public access TV episodes, and organized and executed an annual festival of poetry, Albany Word Fest.

This inaugural “Albany Poets Presents” event will help to re-launch Albany Poets and its supporting members and active artists in the Albany area.  We hope to raise enough money to be able to present all of the 2014 Albany Word Fest events at no cost to our guests and to be able to send our Nitty Gritty Slam team to National Poetry Slam in Oakland, CA next summer.

We feel the literary and poetic communities here in the Capital Region provide a unique opportunity to the local inhabitants to enjoy writing and performing their own works and hearing the works of others in safe and supportive environments.

Admission for this amazing night of poetry and spoken word is just $10. Tickets are available at the door or online at TheLinda.org. For more information, please email albanypoets@gmail.com.
