We have reset the points to zero after the first explosive Semi Final that we held on Tuesday, November 19. Kevin Peterson and Bless moved on to the Grand Slam and now all of the slam poets who want their spot have to come out and get into the next Semi Final that is coming up in April.
On Tuesday, December 3 we start the next phase of Season Three with Nitty Gritty Slam #59. Once a year we have a slam event that goes against one of the biggest rules that we spend so much time telling you about. You have been told that in the slam you have to recite your own work, you cannot read other people’s poetry. Well, at NGS #59, that rule goes right out the window for One Night Only at The Dead Poet Slam!
For this special edition of NGS, you HAVE to read another poets work. And that poet has to be dead. The last time we had this event L-Majesty stole the show with Kevin Peterson right on his heels.
Bring out your Poe! Bring out your Whitman! Bring out your DEAD! The standard NGS / “8-4-2″ format will still apply: three rounds, three minutes, prizes and points at the end.
You are not going to want to miss this 59th installment of Nitty Gritty Slam on December 3 at Valentine’s.
Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series have brought slam back to Albany with the Nitty Gritty Slam.
NGS takes place at Valentine’s (17 New Scotland Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.
If you’re not into slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic before the slam.
Sign up begins at 7:00pm, open mic starts at 7:30, and then Thom Francis starts the slam at 8:00pm.
Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.
