You can’t say that there are no poetry and spoken word events in the area. This week is packed full of open mics, events, readings, and slams. Everything starts on Sunday with the Poetry + Prose open mic in Troy and continues throughout the week with stops in Western Massachsetts (Parlor Cafe and Northampton Slam), Albany (Nitty Gritty Slam #56, Frequency North, and the Third Thursday Poetry Night), the Hudson Valley, and Schenectady for the Derrick Brown show at Proctors.

We are back home at Valentine’s for Nitty Gritty Slam #56, the second annual Inappropriate Slam. We will be back with our traditional “8-4-2″ slam format right after our open mic for poetry and spoken word. This year we have some new rules (the no-repeat rule is in effect) and some exciting featured poets lined up. Sign up begins at 7PM, open mic starts at 7:30, and the slam starts at 8PM. Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.
