Albany Poets Annual Meeting, Sunday, September 8

Moses Statue in Washington Park

UPDATE: We have rescheduled the meeting to Sunday, September 8 at 5:00PM. Please join us and find out what Albany Poets has in store for the next year and how you can get involved.

Have you ever wanted to work with Albany Poets to help put on poetry and spoken word events in the area? Do you have an idea for an event, publication, open mic, blog? Do you want to help build and sustain one of the biggest and diverse literary communities in the country?

Like we say on the volunteer page of the website, “Albany Poets is an all volunteer army. We do not get paid for what we do, we do it for the love of the art.”

Albany PoetsWe have worked hard over the past 13 years to make Albany Poets what it is today. We started in 2000 as a simple website to let people in the area know when and where poetry open mics were taking place. We featured a handful of poets on the site and hosted the School of Night reading series at Valentine’s. Since then we have grown to now hosting multiple monthly events and open mics, the Nitty Gritty Slam, the annual Albany Word Fest, and all the while expanding the website to include news information on poets, artists, events, open mics, and slams from the lower Hudson Valley all the way to the Adirondacks and out to Western Massachusetts.

And as we continue to grow and expand our reach we are adding more projects to our list. And now we are looking for more people to join us and get involved in what we do.

If you are interested in helping out and being part of the team now is your chance. We will be holding the Albany Poets Annual Meeting on Sunday, September 1 at 5:00 PM. We will be discussing the upcoming year and our plans for Poets Speak Loud, Nitty Gritty Slam, The Albany Word Fest, our new event series at The Linda, our journal Up The River, and many other issues and topics. We will also be answering questions about the future of Albany Poets and what our goals for finally becoming an official not-for-profit organization.

If you would like to join us, send an email to albanypoets@gmail.com and introduce yourself.
