We told you about the busy weekend that begins tonight in the Hudson Valley. To add to the festivities, we have a last minute announcement for another poetry event taking place in Woodstock tomorrow at the Woodstock Artists Association and Museum (28 Tinker St., Woodstock) to pay tribute to poet Janine Pommy Vega.
Janine Pommy Vega was an American poet associated with the Beats. Vega grew up in Union City, New Jersey. At the age of sixteen, inspired by Jack Kerouac’s On the Road, she travelled to Manhattan to become involved in the Beat scene there. Janine Pommy Vega died in 2010, leaving with her many friends who have carried on her writings and have been influenced by her extensive canon.The annual Janine Pommy Vega Poetry Festival will take place Saturday, featuring many of these friends, including Pamela Twining, folk musician Marc Black, beat poet Charles Plymell, George Wallace, Andy Clausen, Elizabeth Gordon, and more reading the poems of Janine Pommy Vega.
