A lot going on this coming week in the Northeast. There are a lot of opportunities to get involved in the poetry and spoken word community almost every day next week stating with Monday’s Club Harmony open mic in Woodstock and wrapping up with the first Poets in the Park reading on Saturday in Washington Park.

A weekly open mic for music and poetry.

7:00pm – Club Helsinki Open Mic

The Club Helsinki Open Mic offers burgeoning artists and veterans alike an opportunity to practice their chops, network, and impress their friends using an incredible stage and sound system every Tuesday night in Hudson, NY.

8:00pm – Northampton Poetry Open Mic
Hinge, 48 Main St., Northampton, MA
Northampton’s only weekly open mic poetry night offers some of the best, most creative voices in the county. Every Tuesday night at 8:00pm. Come down and listen. Come down and share your words. Academic or slam, spoken word or political: Your words are welcome. Every show features an open mic reading and a featured poet. Sometimes we all get rowdy and slam. All ages welcome. We charge a $2 cover at the door.

8:00pm – WXW Tuesday Project – Story Slam

Anyone with a story – and we all have them – is invited to share it at the WXW Story Slam. Similar to the popular “Moth” radio show, the WXW Story Slam is a friendly, mildly competitive evening that has proven to be fun for audience and storytellers alike. Theme is “mistaken Identity.”

8:00pm – Cock ‘n Bull Open Mic
The Cock ‘n Bull, 5342 Parkis Mills Road, Galway, NY

Host R.M. Engelhardt is bringing back the monthly “School of Night” poetry open mic series for “poets, poetry and spoken word”.

A weekly open Mic for music, poetry, and spoken word at one of Albany’s best new coffee shops.

 

Friday, July 12

6:30pm – Pine Hollow Arboretum Open Mic
Pine Hollow Arboretum, 16 Maple Ave., Slingerlands, NY
A poetry reading and open  mic series that brings in some very talented writers and performers every year. Poets and writers who wish to participate in the open mic can read three short poems, two longer poems, or two pages of prose.

8:00pm – The Parlor Cafe Open Mic
The Parlor Cafe, 303 Ashland Street, North Adams, MA
A weekly open mic each and every Friday at the Parlor Cafe in North Adams for poets, musicians, and artists. Signup at the bar and get ready for the show, starting at 8:00pm.

 

Saturday, July 13

7:00pm – Poets in the Park
Robert Burns Statue, Washington Park, Albany, NY
Poets in the Park is a long-running summertime poetry reading series that takes place on Saturdays in July at the Robert Burns statue, Washington Park, Albany at Henry Johnson Blvd. & Hudson Ave. The featured poets for the first Poets in the Park for 2013 are Elizabeth K. Gordon and Dennis Sullivan
