Upcoming Poetry Events – Week of May 5, 2013

Summer is on the way and the poetry is heating up here in Albany. We have an exciting week ahead of us with the 2013 Team Nitty Gritty Grand Slam taking place at Valentine’s on Tuesday night. Ten local poets (ILLiptical, Kevin PetersonAveryPoetyc VisionzAlgorhythmDaniella WatsonMojavi, Tasha Davis, Christopher The Poet, and Victorio Reyes) will be competing to be part of the team representing Albany and Nitty Gritty Slam at poetry events this summer.

There is so much more going on on the area including Live From The Living Room and the second installment of the new School of Night series. Here is what’s coming up this week…

Monday, May 6

Tuesday, May 7

7:00pm – Emack and Bolio’s Open Mic Night
Emack & Bolio’s, Delaware Ave., Albany, NY
A weekly open mic for music and poetry

7:00pm – Nitty Gritty Slam #44 – The 2013 Team NGS Grand Slam
Valentine’s, 17 New Scotland Ave., Albany, NY
Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series are bringing slam back to Albany with the NITTY GRITTY SLAM. NGS takes place at Valentine’s (17 New Scotland Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month. If you’re not into slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic before the slam. Sign up begins at 7PM, open mic starts at 7:30, and the slam starts at 8PM. Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.

A brand new monthly open mic for poetry, stories, music, spoken word sponsored by the Galway Public Library.

Host R.M. Engelhardt is bringing back the monthly “School of Night” poetry open mic series for “poets, poetry and spoken word” at the Pearl St. Pub & Dirty Martini Lounge. The featured poet this month is Todd Fabozzi.
