Earlier this season Kevin Peterson and Poetyc Visionz advanced to the Grand Slam, joining Season One Champion of Champions ILLiptical. Next Tuesday, December 4, we will be resetting the points and starting from scratch when we gather for the next Open Slam at Nitty Gritty Slam #32 at Valentine’s.
As a special treat, we will be joined by featured poet Influence from the Verbal Slap slam team from Connecticut.
Influence is a poet, actor and model from New Haven, CT. He has performed all over the country. Most recently a member of the 2012 Connecticut slam team performing at the National Poetry Slam in Charlotte, NC. Influence has been published in magazines and his writings have been studied in high schools as well as colleges. He lives by the motto, “Be what you write, and write from your soul.”
On top of all of that, we will also have an open mic hosted by slam coach and UGT president Mojavi for everyone who is inspired to share their work and words with the very receptive and energetic crowd.
Nitty Gritty Slam is fast becoming one the hottest poetry events in the area. Since the team has come back from the National Poetry Slam in August, Valentine’s has been packed with poets and fans of the art every other Tuesday to be a part of this great series. Recent featured poets John Survivor Blake, Meg Waldron, and Robyn Bateman have brought in more than 50 people to witness the performance of spoken word and we are expecting this evening with Influence to no different.
Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series are bringing slam back to Albany with the NITTY GRITTY SLAM.
NGS takes place at Valentine’s (17 New Scotland Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.
If you’re not into slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic before the slam.
Sign up begins at 7PM, open mic starts at 7:30, and the slam starts at 8PM.
Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.
