This is one of the great poetry series that happen each month in the area, showcasing talented poets and writers of upstate New York. The event take place at the Pine Hollow Arboretum (16 Maple Ave., Slingerlands, NY) starting at 6:30 PM. At this open mic, poets can read three short poems or two longer poems. Also two pages of prose will be acceptable. Light refreshments.

Donations are always welcomed. Contact Alan Casline at acasline@aol.com for more information.

Support for this reading series comes from Delmar Writers Group and Rootdrinker Institute.

Albany Poetry Community stalwart and creative experimental poet Bob Sharkey will be the featured reader at the Pine Hollow Arboretum Open Mic being held on Friday November 9, 2011 starting at 6:30 PM. Pine Hollow Arboretum Visitor Center is located at 16 Maple Avenue, Slingerlands, New York. Starkey will have available for purchase copies of his newly published book SURFACE AT SUNRISE. The Benevolent Bird Press chapbook features a fair selection of Sharkey’s work. As publisher Alan Casline wrote in his RD Newsletter Review,”There is an attunement to material and human things in these poems but also a stronger strain of idealism, an energy of living that pursues perfection with no great expectation and dogged determinism.”

The Open Mic theme for those poets interested, is JUMP THE SHARK. Poems that speak to to our theme are not required but some of our readers like to match their poems to the general theme provided for the event.

Bob is a long time fixture in the local poetry community. He is currently the Treasurer of the Hudson Valley Writers Guild and has always been a big supporter of not only poetry, but all of the arts in the area. If you are not familiar with Bob Sharkey’s work, head over to his page and read some of his poems that are on the Albany Poets website.
