We are gearing up for a big week for Albany poetry and spoken word as Team Nitty Gritty will be heading down to Charlotte, NC for the National Poetry Slam representing Albany and upstate New York for the first time ever.  Thom Francis and Mojavi will be going with the team (Elizag, ILLiptical, D. Colin, and Algorhythm) to let the world know how seriously we take poetry and the arts up here in our area.

Monday, August 6

Tuesday, August 7

7:00pm – Emack and Bolio’s Open Mic Night
Emack & Bolio’s, Delaware Ave., Albany, NY
A weekly open mic for music and poetry

7:30pm – Nitty Gritty Slam #23
Valentines, 17 New Scotland Ave., Albany
Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series are bringing slam back to Albany with the NITTY GRITTY SLAM on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month. If you’re not into slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic before the slam. Sign up begins at 7PM, open mic starts at 7:30, and the slam starts at 8PM. Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID).

Poetry, Music, Comedy and more take center stage at Pauly’s weekly Open Mic Night hosted by Keith Spencer.

8:00pm – Cock N Bull Open Mic
The Cock ‘n Bull Restaurant, 5342 Parkis Mills Road, Galway, NY
A brand new monthly open mic for poetry, stories, music, spoken word sponsored by the Galway Public Library.


Thursday, August 9

7:00pm – Rockhill Bakehouse Open Mic
Rockhill Bakehouse Cafe, 19 Exchange Street, Glens Falls, NY
Weekly open mic for musicians and writers

7:30pm – Bohemian Book Bin Open Mic
Bohemian Book Bin, 85 Carle Terrace, Lake Katrine, NY
Monthly open mic hosted by Teresa Costa with a $3.00 suggested donation. This month’s featured poets are Bruce Weber and Joanne Pagano-Weber.

8:00pm – Starving Artist Thursdays
Hudson River Coffee House, 227 Quail Street, Albany, NY 12203
A weekly open Mic for music, poetry, and spoken word at one of Albany’s best new coffee shops.


Saturday, August 11

2:00pm – Woodstock Poetry Society

Monthly poetry open mic in the beautiful Woodstock hosted by Phillip Levine.
