Nitty Gritty Slam #23 at Valentine’s on Tuesday, August 7

Nitty Gritty Slam #23

Nitty Gritty Slam #23

Just because Team Nitty Gritty is going to be in Charlotte for the National Poetry Slam that doesn’t mean that we are suspending NGS at Valentine’s. Join us on August 7 for the 23rd installment of the Nitty Gritty Slam with special guest hosts Mary Panza, Daniel Nester, and Keith Spencer.

That’s right, Mary “F’n” Panza will be hosting a poetry slam! We thought the day would never come.

This will be the last slam before the 2012 NGS Champion of Champions is crowned at NGS #24 (Tuesday, August 21, more details to come). Who ever comes in first place on the 7th will automatically be included in the big event to celebrate the first year of the Nitty Gritty Slam and to congratulate the team on their performance in Charlotte. This is a great opportunity, with the team out of town for the week, for a new poet to step up and be noticed.

Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series are bringing slam back to Albany with the NITTY GRITTY SLAM.

NGS takes place at Valentine’s (17 New Scotland Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.

If you’re not into slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic before the slam.

Sign up begins at 7PM, open mic starts at 7:30, and the slam starts at 8PM.

Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.

Nitty Gritty Slam, January 3

This was the first poetry event of the year for Dan and it was a great omen that it was a packed house with great words from near and far.
