Nitty Gritty Slam #20 at Valentine’s on Tuesday, June 19

Nitty Gritty Slam #20

Nitty Gritty Slam #20

Last week at Nitty Gritty Slam #19 we introduced the world to Team Nitty Gritty. Shannon “In The Money” Shoemaker, Elizag, Kevin Peterson, and Poetyc Visionz will the poets representing Albany at the National Poetry Slam in Charlotte in August.

We also announced a few changes to the Nitty Gritty Slam with a new banner, a new website, and a new slam master in Thom Francis.

We also had an actual poetry slam that, in the end, proved why our team is made up they way it is with Shannon, Elizag, and Kevin Peterson taking home the prize money for NGS #19.

Now we are looking ahead for our alternates to round out the team and as Mojavi said on stage, “this will be a blood sport”.

Join us at NGS #20 to find out this “blood sport” is all about at Valentine’s.

Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series are bringing slam back to Albany with the NITTY GRITTY SLAM.

NGS takes place at Valentine’s (17 New Scotland Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.

If you’re not into slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic before the slam.

Sign up begins at 7PM, open mic starts at 7:30, and the slam starts at 8PM.

Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.

For information on the rules and format of the Nitty Gritty Slam and to meet the team, go to http://nittygrittyslam.com/

We are now asking everyone in the upstate poetry community to help Team Nitty Gritty make it Charlotte for the NPS by donating to offset some of the costs involved with travel and lodging. If you are would like to help, please click “Donate” on the top of the page. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to Albany Poets and continue to support the poets and poetry of the area.

Nitty Gritty Slam, January 3

This was the first poetry event of the year for Dan and it was a great omen that it was a packed house with great words from near and far.
