Tonight UGT president and open mic host of the Nitty Gritty Slam Mojavi will be the featured poet at Don Levy‘s monthly Live From The Living Room open mic at the Pride Center on Hudson Ave.
Live From the Living Room is a featured reading/open mic series held the 2nd Wednsday of the month @ The Pride Center of The Capital District, 322 Hudson Avenue, Albany, NY. The event is hosted by Don Levy and there is a suggested $2.00 donation. This is a straight-friendly event.
Mojavi has been actively writing poetry since the age of 7. He has been featured or read at AS220 in Rhode Island, Manhattan’s Nuyorican Poetry Cafe, The Sugar Shack Cafe in Harlem, Mangoes in Washington, DC, and local venues including the Lionheart Cafe, Lark Tavern, Poets in the Park, and Mother Earth’s Café. He has self-published two chapbooks: Verbal Hieroglyphics vol. 1 and vol. 2, and co-founded the decade-long reading series known as “Soul Kitchen.” He is currently founder/director of the Urban Guerrilla Theatre poetry/spoken word performance art group, which holds a monthly showcase and open mic at The Linda. Mojavi is also one of the organizers and promoters of the newly minted “Nitty Gritty Slam” in conjunction with Albany Poets, and the “Frequency North” reading series at the College of Saint Rose.
