Melody Davis Features at Schenectady’s 2nd Wednesday Open Mic

Poet and art historian Melody Davis will share poems from her new book, Ghost Writer  (Broadstone Books, 2019), at Create Community Studios, Schenectady, on Wednesday, February 12. Bring one or two short poems or one page of creative prose to share at the open mic, or settle back and listen to Melody’s haunting poems about the ways we live with our ghosts. Readings start at 7:30 pm.

Melody Davis is an associate professor of art history at the Sage Colleges and is internationally recognized for her work on nineteenth-century, narrative stereography (3D photography), and vernacular culture. In addition to her poetry collections, her publications include Women’s Views: The Narrative Stereograph in Nineteenth-Century America (University of Massachusetts Press) and the interactive digital project, Sentiment and Irony: The Stereoscopic Treasures of F. G. Weller. 

In Ghost Writer, Melody Davis writes about her mother’s confinement in a nursing home, the dead of 9/11, childhood traumas, and the ways our ghosts speak through us.
