It was the 1st Tuesday in June, so I headed over to The Low Beat in the Central Ave. entertainment grid for the Slam and poetry open mic.

On May 20, everyone will want to be at The Low Beat for the 2014 Grand Slam featuring eight poets competing to be part of #TeamNittyGritty.
One shouldn’t rest on one’s laurels, they tend to get all crinkled & crushed, so I came back to the Low Beat for more Slam to refresh them.
The Word Fest Invitational Slam was the culminating, climactic event of 2014 Albany Word Fest, with six competing slam teams at The Linda.
On Tuesday, May 6 we’re hosting the Wild Card / Last Chance Slam with the top two poets of the night moving on to the Grand Slam on May 20.
The Nitty Gritty Slam is held on on each 1st & 3rd Tuesday at The Low Beat here in Albany and that means this week it falls into Word Fest.
The kick-off, the 1st round, the ceremonial 1st pitch, the launch of Up the River, the opening lines of Word Fest in the backroom of McGeary’s.
Things are really heating up as we get closer to selecting the team to represent Albany and NGS at the National Poetry Slam in Oakland.
